In God We Trust

A man from Norfolk, VA called a local radio station to share this on Sept 11th, 2003,TWO YEARS AFTER THE TRAGEDIES OF 9/11/2001.
His name was Robert Matthews. These are his words:

A few weeks before Sept. 11th, my wife and I found out we were going to have our first child. She planned a trip out to California to visit her sister. On our way to the airport, we prayed that God would grant my wife a safe trip and be with her. Shortly after I said 'amen,' we both heard a loud pop and the car shook violently. We had blown out a tire. I replaced the tire as quickly as I could, but we still missed her flight. Both very upset we drove home.

I received a call from my father who was retired NYFD. He asked what my wife's flight number was, but I explained that we missed the flight.

My father informed me that her flight was the one that crashed into the southern tower. I was too shocked to speak. My father also had more news for me; he was going to help. 'This is not something I can't just sit by for; I have to do something.'

I was concerned for his safety, of course, but more because he had never given his life to Christ. After a brief debate, I knew his mind was made up. Before he got off of the phone, he said, 'Take good care of my grandchild.' Those were the last words I ever heard my father say; he died while helping in the rescue effort.

My joy that my prayer of safety for my wife had been answered quickly became anger. I was angry at God, at my father, and at myself. I had gone for nearly two years blaming God for taking my father away. My son would never know his grandfather, my father had never accepted Christ, and I never got to say good-bye.

Then something happened. About two months ago, I was sitting at home with my wife and my son, when there was a knock on the door. I looked at my wife, but I could tell she wasn't expecting anyone. I opened the door to a couple with a small child.

The man looked at me and asked if my father's name was Jake Matthews. I told him it was. He quickly grabbed my hand and said, 'I never got the chance to meet your father, but it is an honor to meet his son.'

He explained to me that his wife had worked in the World Trade Center and had been caught inside after the attack. She was pregnant and had been caught under debris. He then explained that my father had been the one to find his wife and free her. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of my father giving his life for people like this. He then said, 'There is something else you need to know.'

His wife then told me that as my father worked to free her, she talked to him and led him to Christ. I began sobbing at the news.

Now I know that when I get to Heaven, my father will be standing beside Jesus to welcome me, and that this family would be able to thank him themselves .

When their baby boy was born, they named him Jacob Matthew, in honor of the man who gave his life so that a mother and baby could live.

This story should help us to realize this: God is always in control.

We may not see the reason behind things, and we may never know this side of heaven, but God is ALWAYS in control.

Please take time to share this amazing story. You may never know the impact it may have on someone. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Faith

Faith is when you are lost in the crowd, fighting against the strength of all, yet one infinitesimal spark of hope lies in your heart, knowing a hand is reaching out to you as you stand firm to struggle away, believing in a matter of time, help will come to pluck you out of the crowd.

Faith needs a lot of hard work. It is like going against the faithless crowd, those who doesn't believe in God, those who love the dark life, or who believe they are god. It will test your strength to see how far you can go and how long you stand up for God amidst all the raging mob.
But with God, it becomes less of a hard work for He carries you with an unconditional love.

When I Pray

When I pray, it makes me feel good, as praying is easy. I pray anytime, anywhere, any place when opportunity arise. But what I am guilty of is keeping up with prayer, to maintain a prayerful life in a sense that I pray with no rush in mind. To pray as if it is the most important thing to do for the day, more important than my plans for the day. To pray, when distractions and temptations dance around me. To pray when there is struggle within me whether to do the right thing or go astray. To pray, not because it makes me feel good but because it makes my Mother Mary happy.

Loving is denying...

Loving is denying oneself. When loving Mother Mary, everything is focus only to Mother Mary and none for oneself. From morning till night, all works for the day is offered to Mother Mary and because self is denied, there'll be no complaining, no pain, no dissatisfaction, no anger, no wishing but just happy Mother Mary is being served for the day. The good thing is: She is looking at you from heaven, telling Jesus how you have spent the day loving...

Love

Love is like a river, ever flowing, calm and peaceful yet with tremendous power at times. Just like Mary's love for her children, always there, quietly watching over with motherly love, peacefully interceding for our needs and at times showed herself to demonstrate how powerful is a mother's love.

Sermons and Meals

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday…

“I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 203,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone WROTE this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this… They all nourished me and gave me strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

Holy Trinity Prayer Group, Pray with us on Mondays

LITANY OF HEALING

For the times as children we were abused…Lord, lift the burden of this memory.
For the times we were accused of things unjustly…
For the times we made mistakes that others couldn't overlook…
For the times we accepted blame and shame for things we could not control…
For the times we have not accepted that God has forgiven us…
For the times we reached out to others and were rejected…
For the times we allowed the past to weigh us down with depression…
For the times we allowed ourselves to be used by others…
For the times we have allowed fear to control us…
For the times we have experienced separation from loved one through abandonment or divorce…
For the times we have experienced the wrenching pain of losing a loved one in death…

For those who have betrayed us… Father, forgive them.
For those who have let us down…
For those who have been indifferent to us…
For those who have crippled our lives by trying to control us…
For those who have doubted us…
For those who have accused us…
For those who have preferred others to us…
For those who have hurt us…
For those who have denied us…
For those who have walked away from us…

For my own self-pity…Father, forgive me.
For my lukewarmness…
For my times of despair and distrust…
For my refusals to be hugged…
For my disbelief in your love…
For my searching everywhere but in your heart…
For apologies frozen on my lips…
For unjust criticism of others…
For my constant complaint…
For my attempts to control others…
For my lack of surrender to you…
For my constant negativity…
For my useless worry…
For the times I have not allowed you to be God…

Lord, there are so many things I need to let go of, please help me to put my trust in you and let go of the burdens that I carry. May I always remember that the only burden I should take on in my life is the one you place on my shoulder – the burden of love and mercy.  Amen.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED TRINITY

The Father is my hope. The Son is my refuge. The Holy Spirit is my protector, Glory to the holy and undivided Trinity, now and forever.

Let us praise the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; let us bless and exalt God above all forever!

Almighty and everlasting God, to whom we owe the grace of professing the true faith, grant that while acknowledging the glory of eternal Trinity and adoring it’s unity, we may through Your majestic power be confirmed in this faith and defended against all adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Come Holy Spirit, fill my heart with Your holy gifts. Let my weakness be penetrated with Your strength this very day that I may fulfill all the duties of my state conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one and hurt no one’s feelings; so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me.

Assist me, O Holy Spirit, in all my trials of life. Enlighten me in my ignorance, advise me in my doubts, strengthen me in my weakness, help me in all my needs, protect me in temptations and console me in afflictions.

Graciously hear me, O Holy Spirit and pour Your light into my heart, my soul and my mind. Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace. Amen.

ROSARY – The Joyful Mysteries

·        1st Joyful Mystery - The Annunciation
·        2nd Joyful Mystery - The Visitation
·        3rd Joyful Mystery - The Nativity
·        4th Joyful Mystery - The Presentation of Jesus in the temple
·        5th Joyful Mystery - The Finding of Jesus in the temple

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY

God, whose only Son earned us the reward of eternal salvation through his life, death and resurrection, grant us, we ask you, through the meditation of the mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the grace to imitate what is contained in them and to attain what is promised in them. This we ask through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER FOR OUR UNBORN CHILD

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you with all my heart. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted, who is in danger of abortion. Amen.

Sing - Immaculate Mary Song

Immaculate Mary, your praises we sing. You reign now in heaven with Jesus our King.

(Refrain) Ave, Ave, Ave Maria. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!

In heaven the blessed your glory proclaim; On earth we your children invoke your fair name. (Refrain)

We pray for our Mother, the Church upon earth, and bless Holy Mary, the land of our birth. (Refrain)

PRAYER FOR PEACE

Immaculate Heart of Mary, help us to conquer the menace of evil, which so easily takes root in our hearts of the people today, and whose immeasurable effects already weigh down upon our modern world and seem to block the paths toward the future.

From famine and war, deliver us. From nuclear war, from incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us. From sins against human life from its very beginning, deliver us. From hatred and from the demeaning of the dignity of the children of God, deliver us. From every kind of injustice in the life of society, both national and international, deliver us. From readiness to trample on the commandments of God, deliver us. From attempts to stifle in human hearts the very truth of God, deliver us. From the loss of awareness of good and evil, deliver us. From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us.

Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual human beings, laden with the sufferings of whole societies.

Help us with the power of the Holy Spirit conquer all sin; individual sin and the “sin of the world,” sin in all its manifestations.
Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world the infinite saving power of merciful love.

May it put a stop to evil, may it put a stop to war. May it transform consciences, May your Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of hope. Amen.

BEATITUDES

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice’s sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when men reproached you, and persecute you, and speaking falsely, say all manner of evil against you, for My sake.

----READINGS FOR UPCOMING SUNDAY MASS----

A PRAYER OF HOPE

Lord Jesus, You welcome into Your kingdom all those who do Your Father’s will and You reward with eternal life all who see You in the poor and lowly. We pray now for all our loved ones, family and friends, who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith: (pause here for silent reflection)

In your great mercy, be mindful of their good deeds and forgive them their offenses. Bring them safely home to heaven, together with your Mother Mary and all angels and saints

There we hope to rejoice one day together with them, for we hope in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. We firmly trust that you will come to judge the living and the dead and we believe that your kingdom will have no end. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE POPE

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd  Benedict XIV a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love.

By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build your church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER TO SAINT JUDE

Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the church honors and invokes you universally, as patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of.

Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of.

Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings particularly…..(pause here for requests)

May I praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen.

CHAPLET OF MERCY

Most compassionate God, Father of mercy and Lord of all consolation, who dost not wish the damnation of him who believes and trusts in Thee; look down upon us, we beseech Thee, according to the multitude of Thy mercies and increase Thy mercy, that even in the greatest trials of this life we may always faithfully comply Thy Will, which is mercy itself.

Through Thy Son and our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with Thee for ever and ever. Amen.

ST. MICHAEL ARCHANGEL

V. Lord, you have given your angels charge of us,
R. To keep us in all our ways.

St. Michael, Archangel, defend us in battle and protect us against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke Satan, we humbly pray and by God’s power may you, prince of the heavenly host, cast him into hell with all the evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

PRAYER FOR SOULS – told to St. Gertrude the Great

Eternal father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Independence Day Reflection

Upon celebrating independence day, reflect on being independent from the temptations of the devil. Be selfless to let God reign in our hearts so we may have the strength to fight tempting offers that are not of love. Be of service to those who need help the most because they too are children of God. Be aware of the devil's work behind a sheep's skin for they can be misleading at times. Be sharers of God's Word, shine to others who are still in the dark, lost and confused. Be willing to offer Him your disappointments in life to make it less disappointing and be contented with oneself, what you have, what you are, who you are make one special in the eyes of God for you are created in His image and likeness. Be independent from sins but not from God.

Prayer to Padre Pio

A Prayer to Padre Pio

Beloved Padre Pio, today I come to add my prayer to the thousands of prayers offered to you every day by those who love and venerate you in Jesus' name. They ask for cures and healing, earthly and spiritual blessings, and peace for body and mind. And because of your friendship with the Lord, he heals those you ask to be healed, and forgives those you ask be forgiven in Jesus' name.

Through your visible wounds of the Crucified Jesus, which you bore for 50 years, you were chosen in our time to glorify the crucified Jesus. Because the Cross has been replaced by other symbols, please help us bring back the veneration of the wounds of Jesus Christ, for we acknowledge His Precious Blood as true a sign of salvation, cleansing and purification.
As we lovingly recall the wounds that pierced your hands, feet and side, like  beloved Jesus Christ, we not only remember the blood He shed as you also shed in pain, along with your smile, and the invisible halo of sweet smelling flowers that surrounded your presence certainly the Scent of The Lord, symbolic as the perfume of sanctity.
Padre Pio, may the healing of the sick become the testimony that the Lord has invited you to join the holy company of Saints. In your kindness, please help me with my own special request: (mention here your petition, and make the sign of the Cross).

Bless me and my loved ones. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

7 DIFFERENCES POPE FRANCIS HAS MADE IN ONE APPEARANCE.

7 DIFFERENCES POPE FRANCIS HAS MADE IN ONE APPEARANCE.

1. Changed the golden throne by a wooden chair... Something more appropriate for the disciple of a carpenter.

2. Did not want the gold-embroidered red stole, Heir of the Roman Empire, nor the red chasuble...

3. Uses same old black shoes, not the classic red.

4. Uses a metal cross, not of rubies and diamonds.

5. His papal ring is silver, not gold.

6. Uses the same black pants under the cassock, to remember that he is a another priest.

Have you discovered the 7th?

7. Removed the red carpet... He is not interested in fame and applause...

A picture about the 7 different things POPE FRANCIS has made since becoming a pope is circulating on the net by someone who likes to compare. This can twist people's understanding of a pope. Pope is no different from a president. They are entitled to their own style and way of life. If there is any changes, so be it because that is how the person wants to be.

However, whatever changes the new pope made that is different from the outgoing pope is normal. We should not judge according to what we see but to think deeper and understand the whole person. I personally believe that all popes love God. If they don't, why become a priest? All popes are humble, knowing very well that God is the ultimate creator. I think all pope are great men who made a decision to follow God.

With our new pope, I have immense respect for Pope Francis and so with the previous pope and people around the world. He has shown great examples of humbleness, modesty, of tolerance and of kindness in these few months since becoming pope. That is something we should focus on. Maybe it was written in the Prophecy that a pope will arrive as humble as Christ for us to be reminded and be Christ like.  To be Christ like is to be a true servant of the word of God.

They all deserve love and respect. Catholics or not, our teachings are all about peace and goodwill.

Dear Lord - A Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank You for this day,

I thank You for my being able to see

and to hear this morning.

I'm blessed because You are

a forgiving God and

an understanding God.

You have done so much for me

and You keep on blessing me.

Forgive me this day for everything

I have done, said or thought

that was not pleasing to you.

I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe

from all danger and harm.

Help me to start this day

with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude.

Let me make the best of each and every day

to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind

that I can accept all things.

Let me not whine and whimper

over things I have no control over.
And give me the best response

when I'm pushed beyond my limits.

I know that when I can't pray,

You listen to my heart.

Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be

a blessing to others.

Keep me strong that I may help the weak...

Keep me uplifted that I may have

words of encouragement for others.

I pray for those that are lost

and can't find their way.

I pray for those that are misjudged

and misunderstood.

I pray for those who

don't know You intimately.

I pray for those that will delete this

without sharing it with others

I pray for those that don't believe.

But I thank You that I believe

that God changes people and

God changes things.

I pray for all my sisters and brothers.

For each and every family member

in their households.

I pray for peace, love and joy

in their homes; that they are out of debt

and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye that reads this

know there is no problem,  circumstance,
or situation greater than God.

Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight.

I pray that these words be received

into the hearts of every eye that sees it

in Jesus' name. Amen!

If you prayed this prayer,

change the number in the subject box

before forwarding the message

so people can see how many

other people have done so.

God Bless ! ! ! ! !

Just repeat this phrase and see how God moves!!

God I love you and I need you,

Come into my heart, please and fill me with your Holy Spirit!

Short Prayer Reflections

I am miserable, a prisoner of my soul, loaded with fetters until you comfort me with the light of Your presence and restore me to hope by Your touch of love.

O Mary, my mother, grant that I may always show your virtues in my actions and words. Lay your mantel upon me, so I may live in accordance to your Son's way.

To seek God first, hoping to be always first in His list. Therefore, I seek the Lord with all might, soul and mind for he is the way, the truth and the life.

Now I am starting to believe that all is not lost when anything happens contrary to what you have wanted. In every failure, something good is awaiting, it is for you to discover - with faith in heart. It will be accordingly...

I will speak to my Lord as if I am dust and ashes, a nothing, when the wind blows, I disappears. For HE is my creator and dust will I be according to HIS WILL.

Strive thyself to be good and faithful servant of the Lord, to bravely bear our cross with love, hope and peace for HE died for us because of HIS Love for us, hope for our wickedness and to shower peace into our hearts.

Resolve on something definite, against those things that hinder us from getting closer to our Dear Mother Mary and to examine ourselves, INTERIOR and EXTERIOR, as both are necessary for our advancement in faith.

Loving Mary intimately is learning divine things and speaking in wonders. One learn to abandon material things and be free from attachment in this world, for Mary is enough as our attachment to God.

I acknowledge myself unworthy of divine consolation but worthy of more sufferings to cleanse me from my pride, anger and judgments...so help me Mother Mary.

There are many who, when things do not go the way they want it to be, immediately lose their desire to pray and becomes bitter to God's love. Mary never did...

Grant O God, that I may love You as You deserved to be loved with all my soul, my mind and my heart. Love for all times - all occasions and all circumstances...

We have to remember that we survived because of our faith. Without faith, we wither like plants without water.

The road maybe be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous and ordinary but it leads to the most amazing view...The paradise to heaven.

May all humankind offer blessings to each other, let go of any anger, so we may live peacefully.

Let the heavens be your guide and nature your companion when you are in confusion...for it is God who gave us life and by His grace we make decisions through His whispers in the wind.

Jesus is the only religious leader that is risen from the dead and was born through Mary, The Immaculate Conception. Do we need more proof?

In times of need, remember that each of us has a strength as vast as the ocean and as strong as the wind that is always ready within us, if we only believe that we can because God is in our hearts and He provides.

For a real spiritual exercise this Holy Week, please join your parish celebration of the Easter Triduum which will begin today, Thursday and will end on Saturday's Easter Vigil. Check with your parish the schedule of these three most beautiful liturgies. It's the simple way of reminding ourselves how Jesus sacrificed for us.

The Blessed Virgin Mary = The Godbearer.
May I learn to say YES when God ask me to help the needy.
Learn to say YES when ask to pray for the lost ones who can't find their way.
May I learn to say YES when ask to share my time to those lonely believers.
and learn to say YES, by extending my hands to those who are suffering...

Sweet Mary, teach me to be sweet like you. To be sweet to others and to my self when life turns sour. To be sweet inspite of the bitterness that visits my life some days. To use sweetness as my weapon to help others see the sweetness of you - loving us like your own child, like our brother God Jesus.

And her name is Mary. Simple yet blessed, and with her faith, she said "yes, I am the servant of the Lord, be it done to me according to Thy will" How many of us can say "Yes" with faith in our hearts? A yes that let God take care of us? It is tough bur with God nothing is impossible. Be like Mary, say Yes to God.

Having a bad day? Talk to the Blessed Virgin Mary and you'll be happy! She who is always comforting - with her soft and gentle whispers - and a smile that never fades. Then hug your mother if you have one or hug a mother of a friend if you have none. You will be amazed...

Make the Blessed Virgin Mary the Queen in your family. She who is in heaven before us. The children will love Mary just as their caring mother's daily cooking, cleaning, preparing and working, a way to show the children the beautiful Love of Mary to Jesus and the child Jesus as their example of a good child.

Blessed Virgin Mary, your mantle of love is what keeps me going in love...to others. Show you care for others is something the Blessed Virgin Mary would be smiling upon you and lay the mantle of love to protect you...

Mother Mary, what a lovely mother you are to me. When I am sad, your face is suffice to brighten my day because I see that love in your eyes, your love for me - even in the darkest moment of my thoughts. Those eyes that looked through my soul, connecting with gentleness, wakes me up from the dark to see the light again.
Mary holds Christ in her left hand and with her right hand she "shows the way" by pointing to Him...

A 4 year old girl was told that reciting the rosary is like making a necklace made of roses for a mother dear. She would like to offer a rosary to Mother Mary but she can't read yet. Here is how her rosary go while holding the rosary in her tiny hands:
Our Father
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Glory Be.

She did it 5 times for the 5 Mysteries and was glad to offer a rosary to Mother Mary in her own little way.

Like the leaves falling everyday, it is Mother Mary's way of giving love through the leaves that come my way. While the tree stood still to give shade, Mother Mary represents that tree, standing still - always there and reminds us of her love.

Let Mother Mary hold your hand like your mother holding your hand when you were younger, walking hand in hand, together, and with love for each other...

For those mothers who are suffering from hardship these days, be it work, family matters and financial difficulty, we pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary that they will have enough faith to offer it to Jesus through Mary, wisdom to decide for the Glory of God, and to just let it happen for a reason only God knows...

Harmony

I wish to be in harmony with God's plan at all times. Where I don't question his ways and willingly follow His plan, the purpose of my existence. Harmonizing even at the murky scene ahead of me for God knows what is best for me. When things go wrong at times, call upon Jesus for harmony and thus understanding why it happened that way becomes no longer a struggle but accepting. For it is in understanding that we gain strength to right a wrong.  That questioning befalls one's stubbornness, allowing enthusiasm to discover more of God's plan for we exist for a reason, a very good reason yet to discover everyday as it unfolds in our very mind, heart and soul.

Be in harmony with the people around you. From family to friends and acquaintances but especially with oneself.

The Angelus

The Angelus

V — The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R — And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary...    (Say The Hail Mary here.)
V — Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R — Be it done unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary...
V — And the Word was made Flesh.
R — And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary...
V — Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R — That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY: Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ, your Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Stations of the Cross

Opening Prayer

ACT OF CONTRITION

O my God, my Redeemer, behold me here at Thy feet. From the bottom of my heart I am sorry for all my sins, because by them I have offended Thee, Who art infinitely good. I will die rather than offend thee again.

First Station: Jesus is condemned to death

Leader: We adore Thee, O Christ, and bless Thee.
All: Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world.

Jesus, you stand all alone before Pilate. Nobody speaks up for you. Nobody helps defend you. You devoted your entire life to helping others, listening to the smallest ones, caring for those who were ignored by others. They don't seem to remember that as they prepare to put you to death.

As a child, sometimes I feel alone. Sometimes I feel that others don't stand up for me and defend me when I am afraid. Sometimes I don't feel like I am treated fairly, especially if I am scolded or corrected.

As an adult, sometimes I feel abandoned and afraid as well. Sometimes I too, feel like I am treated unfairly or blamed for things unfairly. I have a hard time when people criticize me at home or at work.

Help me be grateful for what you did for me. Help me to accept criticism and unfairness as you did, and not complain. Help me pray for those who have hurt me.

My Jesus, often have I signed the death warrant by my sins; save me by Thy death from that eternal death which I have so often deserved.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory Be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Second Station: Jesus carries His cross

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, as you accepted your cross, you knew you would carry it to your death on Calvary. You knew it wouldn't be easy, but you accepted it and carried it just the same.

As a child, sometimes I don't like the problems that come my way. Sometimes I try to get others to take care of them or solve them for me. Sometimes I become upset and crabby when I'm asked to do even the smallest thing to help others.

As an adult I sometimes feel like I'm not appreciated. Sometimes I feel as if I accept more responsibility that I need to. I can feel sorry for myself, even though the crosses others carry are much larger than my own. In my self-pity, I don't reach out to help.

My Jesus, Who by Thine own will didst take on Thee the most heavy cross I made for Thee by my sins, oh, make me feel their heavy weight, and weep for them ever while I live.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory Be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Third Station: Jesus falls the first time

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, the cross you have been carrying is very heavy. You are becoming weak and almost ready to faint, and you fall down. Nobody seems to want to help you. The soldiers are interested in getting home, so they yell at you and try to get you up and moving again.

As a child, sometimes I start to do something, but then get tired of it. I hurry to get finished and sometimes don't do my work well. Sometimes I don't pay attention to what I should be doing. When things get hard for me, sometimes I give up.

As an adult, I sometimes put things off. I give up too easily, and sometimes don't do my work as well as I know I can.

My Jesus, the heavy burden of my sins is on Thee, and bears Thee down beneath the cross. I loathe them, I detest them; I call on Thee to pardon them; may Thy grace aid me never more to commit them.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory Be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Fourth Station: Jesus meets His mother

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, you feel so alone with all those people yelling and screaming at you. You don't like the words they are saying about you, and you look for a friendly face in the crowd. You see your mother. She can't make the hurting stop, but it helps to see that she is on your side, that she is suffering with you. She does understand and care.

As a child, sometimes I feel like too many things are going on. Sometimes other kids pick on me and call me names. I need to look around me for a friendly face, and for the help I need. I need to share my troubles with those who truly care about me.

As an adult I sometimes feel overwhelmed by many things. Life is so competitive, and I worry so much about my future and those who have some control over it. I need to remember that being an adult does not mean having to solve every problem all by myself. I need to look around me for a friendly face, for the help I need.

Jesus most suffering, Mary Mother most sorrowful, if, by my sins, I caused you pain and anguish in the past, by God's assisting grace it shall be so no more; rather be you my love henceforth till death.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Fifth Station: Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry his cross

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, the soldiers are becoming impatient. This is taking longer than they wanted it to. They are afraid you won't make it to the hill where you will be crucified. As you grow weaker, they grab a man out of the crowd and make him help carry your cross. He was just watching what was happening, but all of a sudden he is helping you carry your cross.

As a child, sometimes I see people who need my help. Sometimes I pretend not to hear when my parents call me. I disappear when I know others could use my help.

As an adult, sometimes I try to do as little as I can and still get by. Others might need my help, but I ignore their needs. Even when I'm asked to help, I sometimes claim to be too busy.

My Jesus, blest, thrice blest was he who aided Thee to bear the cross. Blest too shall I be if I aid Thee to bear the cross, by patiently bowing my neck to the crosses Thou shalt send me during life. My Jesus, give me grace to do so.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Sixth Station: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, suddenly a woman comes out of the crowd. Her name is Veronica. You can see how she cares for you as she takes a cloth and begins to wipe the blood and sweat from your face. She can't do much, but she offers what little help she can.

As a child, sometimes I know someone could use a little help and understanding. They may be picked on or teased by others, or just sad or lonely. Sometimes I feel bad that others don't step in to help, but I don't help either.

As an adult, I notice the needs around me. Sometimes my own family members crave my attention, and I don't even seem to notice. Sometimes a co-worker, friend, or family member could use help or understanding, but I don't reach out to help lest I be criticized, or that they demand more of me than I'd like to give.

My tender Jesus, Who didst deign to print Thy sacred face upon the cloth with which Veronica wiped the sweat from off Thy brow, print in my soul deep, I pray Thee, the lasting memory of Thy bitter pains.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Seventh Station: Jesus falls the second time

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

This is the second time you have fallen on the road. As the cross grows heavier and heavier it becomes more difficult to get up. But you continue to struggle and try until you're up and walking again. You don't give up.

As a child, sometimes things get me down. Others seem to find things easier to do or to learn. Each time I fail, I find it harder to keep trying.

As an adult, sometimes I think I should know more than I do. I become impatient with myself and find it hard to believe in myself when I fail. It is easy to despair over small things, and sometimes I do.

Help me when things seem difficult for me. Even when it's hard, help me get up and keep trying as you did. Help me do my best without comparing myself with others.

My Jesus, often have I sinned and often, by sin, beaten Thee to the ground beneath the cross. Help me to use the efficacious means of grace that I may never fall again.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have Mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Eighth Station: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, as you carry your cross you see a group of women along the road. As you pass by you see they are sad. You stop to spend a moment with them, to offer them some encouragement. Although you are have been abandoned by your friends and are in pain, you stop and try to help them.

As a child, sometimes I think a lot about myself. I think about what I want and would like people to spend their lives pleasing me.

As an adult, sometimes I act like a child. I become so absorbed in myself and what I'd like that I forget about the needs of others. I take them for granted, and often ignore their needs.

Help me think more about others. Help me remembers that others have problems, too. Help me respond to them even when I'm busy or preoccupied with my own problems.

My Jesus, Who didst comfort the pious women of Jerusalem who wept to see Thee bruised and torn, comfort my soul with Thy tender pity, for in Thy pity lies my trust. May my heart ever answer Thine.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have Mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Ninth Station: Jesus falls a third time

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, your journey has been long. You fall again, beneath your cross. You know your journey is coming to an end. You struggle and struggle. You get up and keep going.

As a child, sometimes I fail time and time again. I find it hard to get along with my sisters and brothers, sometimes I'm not honest, sometimes I'm lazy. I'm tempted to stop trying. It's just too hard sometimes.

As an adult, I often feel I should have conquered my weaknesses by now. I become discouraged when I'm confronted by the same problems over and over again. Sometimes I get weary. When I have health problems, I can become discouraged and depressed.

Help me think of the cross you carried. Help me continue to hope that I can make the changes in my life I need to. You didn't give up. I can have the strength to get up again as well.

My Jesus, by all the bitter woes Thou didst endure when for the third time the heavy cross bowed Thee to the earth, never, I beseech Thee, let me fall again into sin. Ah, my Jesus, rather let me die than ever offend Thee again.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace.
All: Amen.

Tenth Station: Jesus clothes are taken away

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

The soldiers notice you have something of value. They remove your cloak and throw dice for it. Your wounds are torn open once again. Some of the people in the crowd make fun of you. They tease you and challenge you to perform a miracle for them to see. They're not aware that you'll perform the greatest miracle of all!

As a child, sometimes I'm tempted to repeat stories I know are unclean and disrespectful. I sometimes try to act grown up by using crude and bad words.

As an adult, sometimes I repeat stories that are disrespectful of others. I can entertain thoughts that are not clean. Sometimes I give the young people around me a bad example to follow.

Help me to keep myself pure and clean. Help me say things that build up the people around me. Help me overcome worldly desires that I may become more like Jesus. Help me set a good example for others to follow.

My Jesus, stripped of Thy garments and drenched with gall, strip me of love for things of earth, and make me loathe all that savors of the world and sin.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Eleventh Station: Jesus is nailed to the cross

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

You are stretched out on the cross you have carried so far. The soldiers take big nails and drive them into your hands and feet. You feel abandoned by the people you loved so much. People seem to have gone mad. You have done nothing but good, yet they drive nails through your hands and feet.

As a child, sometimes I hurt others. Sometimes I join with friends and decide not to like another. We gang up against another and cause them hurt and pain. Sometimes I say or do hurtful things to my brothers and sisters. I can wonder what they'd think about themselves if they believed everything I told them about themselves.

As and adult, sometimes I discriminate against others. Even without thinking, I judge others because of their color, intelligence, income level or name. I forget that I am to live as a brother or sister to all people. Sometimes I use harsh words when I speak to my children and family members. I can find it easy to look for something that isn't very important and make it very important.

Help me look again at the people around me. Help me see the hurt and pain I have caused in others. Be with me to help me make amends for the harm I have done.

My Jesus, by Thine agony when the cruel nails pierced Thy tender hands and feet and fixed them to the cross, make me crucify my flesh by Christian penance.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Twelfth Station: Jesus dies on the cross

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

As Jesus hung on the cross, he forgave the soldiers who had crucified him, and prayed for his mother and friends. Jesus wanted all of us to be able to live forever with God, so he gave all he had for us.

Jesus, let me take a few moments now to consider your love for me. Help me thank you for your willingness to go to your death for me. Help me express my love for you!

My Jesus, three hours didst Thou hang in agony, and then die for me; let me die before I sin, and if I live, live for Thy love and faithful service.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Thirteenth Station: The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, how brutally you were put to death. How gently your are taken from the cross. Your suffering and pain are ended, and you are put in the lap of your mother. The dirt and blood are wiped away. You are treated with love.

As a child, sometimes I treat others better when they're sad or in pain. When somebody dies, I become very gentle and kind. I notice the good and kind things people say about those who have died.

As an adult, I seem to be kinder when someone dies. If only I could learn to see the good things about them while they were alive. If only I would tell those around me how much I love them, while I still have the opportunity to do so.

Help me look for the good in those around me, especially those I love the most. Help me live this day as if it were the last. Help me become a more gentle and loving person through my greater appreciation for those around me.

O Mary, Mother most sorrowful, the sword of grief pierced thy soul when thou didst see Jesus lying lifeless on thy bosom; obtain for me hatred of sin because sin slew thy Son and wounded thine own heart, and grace to live a Christian life and save my soul.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: Have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.

Fourteenth Station: Jesus is laid in the tomb

Leader: We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you.
All: Because by your holy cross You have redeemed the world.

Jesus, your body is prepared for burial. Joseph gave you his own tomb. He laid your body there and rolled a large stone in front of it, then went home. What a sad day it has been for so many people.

As a child, sometimes I try to keep everything for myself. I find it hard to share my things with my brothers or sisters and with my friends.

As an adult, I can be selfish too. I can accumulate things and keep them for myself. I try to make sure I have what I want before I share what I have with anybody else.

Help me think of Joseph of Arimathea, who risked his own life as he accepted Jesus' body for burial. Help me think of how Joseph loved Jesus so much that he gave him his own tomb.

My Jesus, beside Thy body in the tomb I, too, would lie dead; but if I live, let it be for Thee, so as one day to enjoy with Thee in heaven the fruits of Thy passion and Thy bitter death.

Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be to the Father....

Leader: Jesus Christ Crucified.
All: have mercy on Us.
Leader: May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in peace.
All: Amen.
