The Guilty One

Was i the Guilty One?

Last night, a friend sent me a video and ask to watch during my free time. As it was late, I took her words to watch it in the morning. Right after I drop off my kids to school, I was getting out with flashing signal because the cars in line were quite long, I waited for my chance to turn around going home. First, second, third car were not giving way but the fourth one stayed behind to allow me to turn and I did with a wave of thank you as our eyes met. It was that good feeling of being considered as someone who needs to just get out of the way and return home. On my way home, a car was waiting for their turn to turn and I signal “Go ahead” and it feels good to be able to return the favor to someone else. Life is indeed about consideration.

As I parked my car, my mind was set to watch the video. I was excited for no reason. Well, I always enjoy anything about God so maybe that’s it. Immediately, after I settled on my chair I turned on the video to watch. It was about a host found by a woman and the story goes like this as told in the video:

One of the most important teaching of The Catholic Church is one of the most difficult teachings we are asked; to believe that Jesus is really physically present in the bread and wine consecrated by the priest during the holy mass.

In fact, even some priests through the ages have struggled with this Catholic belief, that God recognizes. And that many of us need help; to believe and from time to time has provided for us clear proof miracles to help us with our faith in the real presence of His Son in the Eucharist. Some of these miracles have happened long ago. Some have happened in recent times. One of these is a Eucharistic miracle that took place in 1996 in a church in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the diocese of Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio who would become our current Pope Francis.

This is what happened:

At 7 o’clock in the evening August 18, 1996, Fr Alejandro Pezet was saying holy mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the center of Buenos Aires. As he was finishing distributing holy Communion, a woman came up to tell him that she had found a discarded host at the back of the church. Someone has dropped it and had not wished to consume the dirty host.

Fr. Alejandro went and retrieve the unconsumed Eucharist as is the practice in the situations he placed it in a container of water and put it away in the tabernacle to sit so that it could dissolve. Fr. Alejandro knew that in several days, the Eucharist would dissolve and he would be able to respectfully dispose of it by watering the plant with the water.

On Monday, August 26 upon opening the tabernacle Pezet saw to his amazement that the host had not dissolve but rather it turned into a bloody substance. He informed the Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Bergoglio with the instructions that the host be professionally photographed. The photos were taken on September 6. It clearly shows that the host which have become a fragment of bloody flesh, have grown significantly in size. For several years, the host remained in the tabernacle, the whole affair, being kept a strict secret. Since the host suffered no visible decomposition, the now Archbishop Bergoglio decided to have it scientifically analyzed. On October 5th, 1999, in the presence of the Archbishop’s representatives, Professor Dr. Ricardo Castañon, a Neuro-psycho Physiologist was given permission to take a sample of the bloody fragment for testing and he brought it to New York for analysis. Since he did not wish to prejudice the study, he purposely did not inform the team of scientists of where the sample came from.

One of these scientists was Dr. Frederick Zugibe, the well-known cardiologist and forensic pathologist. Zugibe determined that the analyzed substance was real flesh and blood containing human DNA. As he looked down at his microscope, he said I can tell you exactly what this is. This flesh is part of the muscle of the heart found in the wall of the left ventricle. It’s the muscle that gives the heart its beat and the body its life. I could see infiltrated through this tissue white blood cells and that tells me two things: that this heart was alive at the moment that the sample was taken because white blood cells die outside of living organisms. And also, this white blood cells go to address injury. So, this heart has suffered. This is the sort of thing I see in patients that have been beaten about the chest.

Two Australians journalist Mike Willesee and lawyer Ron Tesoriero involved in the investigations also witnessed these tests. Knowing where the sample had come from, they were dumbfounded by Zugibe’s testimony. Mike Willesee asks the scientist how long the white blood cells would have remained alive if they had come from a piece of human tissue which have been kept in water.

“They would have seized to exist in a matter of minutes.” Dr Gizube replied.
The journalist then told the doctor that the source of the sample had first been kept in ordinary water for a month and then for another three years in a container of distilled water. Only then that the sample been taken for analysis. Dr Zugibe was at a loss to account for this fact.

“There was no way of explaining it scientifically.” he stated. Only then did Mike Willesee inform Dr. Zugibe that the analyzed sample came from a consecrated host, white, unleavened bread that had mysteriously turned into bloody human flesh.

Amazed by this information, Dr. Zugibe replied “How and why a consecrated host would change its character and become living human flesh and blood will remain an inexplicable mystery to science, a mystery totally beyond far competence. “Then Dr. Richard Castañon arranged to have a lab reports from the Buenos Aires miracle compared to the lab reports on a relic from a similar miracle that took place in Lanciano Italy over 1200 years ago.

Again, without revealing the origin of the test samples.

The experts making the comparison concluded that the two lab reports must have originated from test samples obtained from the same person. They further reported that both samples revealed an AB positive blood type. They are all characteristics of the man who is born and lived in the middle east region.

How can the events of the miracle of Buenos Aires be explained? Only faith in the extraordinary action of a God provides the reasonable answer. Faith in a God who wants to make us aware that he is truly present in the mystery of the Eucharist. As a result of his investigation of this and other miracles, Dr. Ricardo Castañon, who is a staunch atheist much of his life converted to Catholicism.

Whenever you receive communion, may the miracle of Buenos Aires help to remind you of the awesome miracle and sacrifice of Christ in the Eucharist. Allow him to nourish you with his presence.

The video ends with these words “One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.” - The Little Prince

It was a beautiful 8-minute video. While watching, I can’t help letting go of my tears. They are tears of guilt. I am thankful for my friend who shared this video since it is Holy Thursday and is the perfect time to watch. However, this video brings back the guilt I have been carrying since that day it happened years ago.  I am thankful and also in sorrow. Is this the proper way of how Holy Thursday will be experience? I asked myself. I have plan a quiet, peaceful and solemn holy week, no matter where I am. I have not plan to go somewhere but in my house and church. It is best to be in a comfortable place and peaceful during this reflection. Life has been a bit rough and all I wanted is peace. There are things I need to take care of but will set aside everything and focus on reflecting Christ's suffering during this Lenten season.

It’s been so many years, but guilt has a way of knocking it's way to remind me.  I still have guilt over one incident that happened to me 30 years ago.  I was young, naive and maybe proud, who knows? My godmother offered me a volunteer work as a catechist. I was only 16, going 17 perhaps. I did the training and immediately started teaching that year. I have 30 classes per week in a public school, each lasting 40 minutes. I was a kid teaching kids who are 10 years younger than me. Needless to say, there was a 10-year gap between a teacher and the students. It was also my first teaching experience.

Being new, I have this idea that I need to learn from the old timers. There is mass every week in the school and I would stay behind because I let the experienced catechist teachers go before me. I am a newbie, no experience and young. The classes were alright with me, being new, it doesn’t matter how big the class gets, a whopping 40-50 students in one class. This is my first year and there is nothing for me to compare. The kids were mostly from low income family since it is run by the government and free to those who want to learn but no means to pay for school tuition. At times, the kids have no proper clothes and no proper bath. The room sometimes smell like a bunch of sweat. But, I can stand it. Does a 16-year-old who is also struggling really care for perfumed room?  No. I see myself in those kids.

Every day, I meet different kids of different character and when the class is over, I would cross the street, visit the blessed sacrament to pour all my thoughts especially when I do not have the money to buy my lunch. God fills me up, at least spiritually.

One windy morning, after a strong rain two days ago, we were preparing for the morning mass when our director realized that most teachers were not able to make it to class today. After all, this is a voluntary work and sometimes, family matters or health can be a reason for absences.  With less teachers to help, everyone must be a lay minister to assist the priest as we serve thousands of students. Having more help also speed up the time needed to finish the mass which the school principal will be grateful, thinking the hours given to these kids to learn is not enough. The teachers do their best to teach as much knowledge but with cramp classroom, crowded at times that the class might have to be moved to the alley just to be able to conduct a class; time is of essence. It was noisy and so distracting for the learners but teachers got to do what needs to be done. At times, when there is a problem in one of the classrooms, classes are moved to any small area for kids to sit on the floor and listen to the teacher’s lesson for the day. The students sometimes arrived wearing slippers or maybe wears the same clothes for days and you know how that smell. At least, during mass, it’s held at the playground, very open.

Today is different. I was caught with no excuse to stay away from giving communion. I heard my name, followed by a command.  “Come and help give communion. We don’t have enough catechist today.” I obliged and felt the anxiety kicks in me instantly. I was a shy kid and this is the least of the things I want to do, being in front of so many people. I was okay to the idea of teaching in a class of 50 kids and was not even nervous even on the first day, I was a natural! Is there a difference I cannot explain to myself between a class of 50 kids compared to the whole school with other teachers helping or is it something else? I know, I am the guilty one.

And the mass begins at 7:45 a.m. as it normally happens. The kids were listening and the teachers were right close to their students. Since the mass is held in an open space, you can see what a beautiful it was. It was sunny and bright outside.

When it was time for communion, I get ready to go to the front and pick up one bowl and situated myself in line with the other catechists. There were only 3 of us and the priest. Think of how long it will take to finish giving communion to 2000 students. I understand very well and I am always ready to help. It’s just that something is bothering me, a struggle within me that I do not understand or my maturity is not up to it yet.

Staring ahead, I see the long line in front of me, waiting for their turn to receive the holy communion and I begin the journey, like an experienced lay minister, I pick a blessed host, raise it up, “Body of Christ.” I said. I heard a faint “Amen.”

It was going well when a strong windy rush suddenly came as I was picking another blessed host, just as I let go of the Eucharist to let it fall on the tongue of this beautiful innocent child in a ponytail, a strong wind pushes it away from where it's supposed to be, instead floats like a cotton ball and swirling a little bit, flipping a few times before it landed on a slow flowing water with bottom part that was as black as charcoal for it rained the other day. Dirt and debris collects at the bottom turning dark, while some water continue to flow gently.

My mind was in shocked! Speechless, I tried hard to gather my thoughts and make a grasp of what happened. In a few seconds, I was struggling between picking it up and eating it myself or letting it go and forget about it like it never happened. But, it is the Holy Eucharist and deserved so much respect, and it is the body of Christ! How can I not consider that?  I remember very well, my right hand floating in the air as cover, while my left hand holding a bowl of Eucharist, making sure to protect the rest of the Eucharist from being blown away by the wind that was blowing hard, some kids were holding their hair from flying everywhere. The innocent face in front of me locked eyes with me, the guilty one, with fear.

It feels like the whole world stopped for a moment; there was only me and the Eucharist.

With a few seconds to spare, I came too late. The gentle flow of water carried the Eucharist down to the drainage hole.  I was crushed! I pick up another Eucharist for the child in front of me to take and she move to her side as the next student in line approached to receive communion.

I continued on giving the Eucharist until there was none. The mass is over but it was not over for me.

Until this day, I would ask the same questions “Was it the wind or was I nervous that the host that I just pick to put on a child’s mouth was improperly handled? Was the timing wrong perhaps, that I was not ready to give communion?

Was my hand too shaky, it affected the whole purpose of giving communion? Was I mentally fit at that moment? So many questions I have in my mind even until after more than 30 years. Has it affected my life? Maybe or maybe not. Only God knows because my faith grows each day when I remember my sins.

Recalling as soon as it fell to the ground, I was contemplating whether to pick it up or not and I did not!  The struggle was real. I was struggling within, one part of my brain said to pick it up because it’s holy and must be respected. The other part of me was thinking about the water, dirty and filthy to the max.  How could I pick it up and put in my mouth?  My human existence is talking at this moment, struggling with God like thinking that very moment.  I was only 16 years old then and would like to use that as an excuse.  But Mary was 15 when she said “Fiat”.  Nobody sees my struggle but I’m sure God sees clearly.

That incident has one interesting point: My mind was not mature or knowledgeable enough to understand what it really means to be a catechist in the first place. I must learn more about God and continue to pray for wisdom or whatever is God’s plan for me.

After watching the video, I understood the severity of what I did, I cried with a sorrowful heart and asks forgiveness from our Lord God Almighty. I have made the decision to continue giving communion that day without picking up the host and I regret it, a guilty verdict.  It’s a decision that humbled me and forever carry the guilt. I am guilty in the eyes of my Lord.  It’s a one-time decision that will forever made me become who I am today. It bothers me, made me feel unfit to serve the Lord but it keeps my feet grounded. To be forever humble and believing God is a forgiving God is wonderful. It made me pass opportunities to serve as a lay minister but maybe God has other plans for me. And one day, I will be set free from guilt, by God's grace or so I hope.

Prayers For Strength

Give Me Strength, Lord
Lord, you are Holy above all others, and all of the strength that I need is in your hands.
I am not asking, Lord, that you take this trial away. Instead, I simply ask that Your will be done in my life. Whatever that means, that is what I want.
But I admit that it's hard, Lord.
Sometimes I feel like I can’t go on. The pain and the fear are too much for me, and I know that I don’t have the strength on my own to get through this.
I know that I can come to you, Jesus, and that you will hear my prayer. I know that it is not your intent to bring me to this point just to leave me in the wilderness alone.
Please, Lord, give me the strength that I need to face today. don't have to worry about tomorrow.
If you just give me the strength that I need today that is all I need.
Keep me from sinning during this trial. Instead, help me to keep my eyes on you. You are the Holy Lord, and all of my hope rests in you.
Thank you for hearing my prayer.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
.
For Strength and Wisdom

Thank you, Lord, for being there for me and allowing me to cry out to you in my times of need.
It is amazing to me that the Lord of the Universe would take time to listen to me and to care about what I say.
God, there are things happening around me right now that I do not understand. Some of these things make me feel weak, helpless and afraid.
Even in the midst of this, I know that you are the Lord.
I know that the situation is in Your hand, and I trust You.
I beseech you for strength and for wisdom that I would be able to endure this situation and be able to handle it in a way that would bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer for Overcoming Life's Hardships
O Lord, we call upon You in our time of sorrow, That You give us the strength and will to bear our heavy burdens, until we can again feel the warmth and love of Your divine compassion. Be mindful of us and have mercy on us while we struggle to comprehend life's hardships.
Keep us ever in Your watch, til we can walk again with light hearts and renewed spirits.

Strength for a Friend
Lord, I come before you today knowing that all power is in Your hand. I know that you are the Lord and that you care for your people. Right now, my friend is struggling with a difficult trial. I can see her strength is faltering, Lord, and know that you have all of the strength that she needs.
I pray that you will reach down and touch her right now wherever she is at this moment. Let your presence fill the room where she is and let her feel an extra portion of your strength that can help her to get through this day.
She needs you now, Lord, and I thank you in advance for meeting her where she is and shoring up her strength during this difficult time.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

Prayers for Strength and Courage
Say these prayers when you're in need of strength and courage. Day to day troubles are no match for the power of the Lord.

To be Grateful
Lord God, may we be grateful for our lot, and compassionate toward all those who are suffering every kind of distress at this difficult time.
May we hold back nothing, and hasten to be the ministers of prayer and mercy, like the disciples of Him who went about doing good in times of need. Amen

Prayer for Guidance and Help
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path.
My heart is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the right way to a just and right resolution. Thank you for hearing my prayer and for staying by my side.

Ain't No Rock Gonna Shout For Me Lyrics

Ain't No Rock Gonna Shout For Me
J.Paul Williams (based on Luke 19:38-40)

Here comes the Lord ridin' on donkey with people waving branches on callin' him "King".
Here comes the Lord ridin' through Jerusalem.
If the people don't shout, the rocks will cry out!
Rocks, keep silent! Jesus comes to set me free.
Rocks keep silent! I'm gonna shout in victory!
Rocks, keep silent! Jesus reigns in majesty.
Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.

Here comes the Lord us thousands throng to see him.
Children stand on tiptoe to see the king.
Here comes the Lord, excitement in the air.
If the people don't shout, The rocks will cry!
Oh, yes, the rocks will cry out!
Rocks, keep silent! Jesus comes to set me free.
Rocks keep silent! I'm gonna shout in victory!
Rocks keep silent! Jesus reigns in Majesty.
Ain't no Rock gonna shout for me.

Rocks, keep silent! Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.
Rocks, keep silent! Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.
Here comes the Lord; hosannas feel the air.
The people bow and worship the promised king!
Here comes the Lord. Hosanna in the highest!
If the people don't shout, the rocks will cry out!
Rocks, keep silent! Jesus comes to set me free.
Rocks, keep silent! I'm going to shout in victory!
Rocks, keep silent! Jesus reigns in majesty.
Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.
Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.
Ain't no rock gonna shout for me.

Dancing With God

Trinity 1-3, Purpose of Men
Isaiah 43:18-21, Romans 12:1-2

Why Were You Born?

Genesis begins with the creation story. It says that God is the Creator of everything and human beings are created by God. We need to remember it in order to build a right relationship with God. Why is that?

When I went to college, one of the first classes I took was ‘Systematic Theology.’ The professor had his PhD degree in Germany, and he told us to read the German Philosopher, Martin Heidegger’s book, “Being and Time.’
It is Heidegger’s major book that profoundly influenced 20th century philosophy, particularly existentialism, hermeneutics and deconstruction. The book was not easy to read, especially for a college freshman. Most of the students read the book and wrote 5 pages book review without understanding the book. But I still remember one thing that the book said, “We are beings thrown into the world.” In other words, we were born to this world without our choice.

Is it true or is it not true? We didn’t intend to be born but our births were given. In the Christian world, we did not create ourselves but we are created by God. According to Heidegger, most people live as if they were born by themselves until they face death. Once they recognize that they could not avoid death, they feel anxious and question themselves, “Why am I here?” “What is the meaning of my life in this world?

Heidegger said that we exist only within a limited time and we cannot control our being and time. The only thing that we can do is to seek the meaning of our existence so that we can be free from anxiety. Our life is a journey to seek the meaning of our being in this world.

The Purpose Of Men

If we exist by ourselves, then we can find the meaning of our existence in ourselves. But since we are created by God, the reason of our existence is not from us but from God, the Creator. Let’s say that I built a table. Then, people do not ask the table, “Hey! What is purpose of your existence?” Rather than asking the table, People would ask me why I made the table. I know the purpose of the table because I made it.

It is the same that since God created us; the purpose of our existence should come from God. God knows the purpose of human beings, and God said the reasons in the Bible. There are two reasons for creating human beings.

First, God created us to take care of His creation. Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” (NRSV)

This verse suggests that humanity is the image of God in the dominion over the rest of creation. God created the heavens and the earth, fish, flowers, animals and God said it was good. Then God created human beings to have dominion over His creation. Hebrew word for ‘Have Dominion’ is rada. It means "care giving and nurturing" but not exploitation. God asked us to take care of His creation. So, God gave us dominion over the creation in behalf of God, and therefore we represent God to His creation.

Second, God created us to praise His glory. Isaiah 43:18-21 talks about God’s new creation. Since God’s creation was corrupted by human sins, God declared that He would renew his creation and said at verse 21, “the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise.”

Isaiah said that God created human beings that they may praise God’s glory.
‘Praise God!’ is our reason to exist.

Therefore, the last psalm, Psalm 150 ends with praising God’s greatness.
1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty firmament!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that breathes praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

Verse 6 says that it is not only human beings but all of God’s creation should praise God. All creatures are made to praise God’s greatness. It is interesting to compare the first reason with the second reason.
When God told us to have dominion over His creation, we take care of all of His creation in behalf of God. When we praise God, we praise His name in behalf of all of His creation.

On one hand, we represent God to His creation, and on the other hand we represent His creation to God. So, we are the mediator between God and His creation: we take care of His creation and we worship God.
Third, God created us to be a blessing. During the Bible study, we studied on Genesis and we learned about God’s promise to save His people. In order to save his people God called Abraham and said “you shall be a blessing.” (Gen. 12:2) Page

All of the Bible stories are about God’s saving efforts through the people He called. God called Judges, Prophets and Priests to save His people. God sent His beloved son Jesus to save His people. God called disciples, deacons, elders, missionaries and Christians to save His people. All of God’s calling is about saving His people and blessing them.

In the Old Testament, God said ‘you shall be a blessing,’ and in the New Testament, Jesus said, “you are the salt and the light of the world.”(Matt.5:13-14)

Either way, it is the same that God calls us to be part of His salvation plan for the world.

Dancing With God

‘Destiny’ is another word for ‘the purpose of men.’ Louis Savary is a Jesuit professor in Spirituality. He said “our destiny is where God’s mystery and our mystery intersect.” Destiny, goal or mission of our life is not fixed but it was like dancing with God. It is well expressed in “the Creation of Adam”, a fresco painting by Michelangelo. This is part of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling, painted in 1512.

There are many paintings of the creation of Adam, but the uniqueness of this painting is that God and Adam stretch out their hands for the creation. This painting indicates that God created us not like a robot that moves as programmed, not like animals that live by instincts, but according to His own image and invited us to join His ongoing creation. God created us to be His partner by His grace, and called us to reflect His glory in this world. That is our destiny, the meaning of our life in this world.

I like this story that happened in a college. At the end of a semester, a college professor asked if there were any questions.

A student held up his hand and said half-jokingly, “Sir! I have a question. What is the meaning of life?”
Everyone laughed. They knew it was an impossible question and that the student was teasing. But the professor, well into his seventies, didn’t laugh. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small mirror.

Then the professor said, “When I was a small child, during the war, we were very poor and we lived in a remote village. One day, on the road, I found scattered broken pieces of a huge mirror on the ground.
I tried to find all the pieces and put them together, but it was impossible, there's probably a million little pieces, so I kept only the largest piece.

By scratching it on a stone, I made it round. I began to play with it as a toy. And I became fascinated by the fact that I could reflect light into dark places where the sun would never shine…

As I became a man, I grew to understand that this was not just a child’s game but a metaphor for what I might do with my life. I came to understand that I am not the light or the source of light. But light, like truth, true understanding or knowledge is there, and it will only shine in many dark places if I reflect it.”

Christians are like the mirror. We are not light, but we can reflect God’s light.
We are not a blessing, but we can reflect God’s blessing to people.

When we take care of God’s creation, when we love people and when we worship God, we can reflect God’s love and grace.

Let’s remember that we are made wonderfully and beautifully so that we can reflect God’s love and grace in this world.

Rest in God's Refuge

The Dream

Chuang Chou was a famous Chinese philosopher during the third century BC. One day, he dreamed that he became a butterfly and was happily flying over to the sky. When he woke up, he wondered if he had a dream of being a butterfly or the butterfly had a dream that he was Chuang Chou. Which one do you think is real, Chuang Chou or the butterfly?

Let me share my daily life.  I wake up each day; take a shower and dress up for the day. Then, I prepare my kids for school, do this and do that, go to work, meet people, and come back home at night.

Each time, I am aware of what I am doing and the decisions I make for the day. This daytime I, is about who I am, and who represents me, my identity to other people. Since I work a lot during the day, I go to sleep at night to rest.

As I fell asleep, another I pop up! Another I pop up in a dream, and this other I is busy in the dream doing something weird, crazy, funny, fantastic, creative or dumb things. While we call the daytime I as I or ego and I in the dream called the Dream I. So, the daytime I is the owner of the world of consciousness during the day and the dream I is the owner of the world of unconsciousness during the night. Which means, all people have two "I's" daytime I and dream I.

Daytime Jonah
The book of Jonah has only four chapters, but it has one of the most interesting stories. The story is about Prophet Jonah, who disobeyed God's word and was swallowed by a big fish, but still lived and finally carried out God's mission.

Some scholars believe that the story happened literally as the Bible said but others argue that even though the story carries Gods' word, it is not real. I do not want to argue if it is real or not. I do not want approach it with the general Biblical interpretation. Instead, I will try to see the story from the perspective of dream interpretation.

Chapter 1 says that God told Prophet Jonah to preach to the city of Nineveh. It was a great city of the Assyrian empire and its population at that time was more then 120,000. Niniveh was a wicked city worthy of destruction, but God wanted Jonah to preach to the Ninevites so that they would repent otherwise the city would be destroyed.

But the Assyrians were the people who destroyed Northern Israel. They were the enemies of the Israelites. Prophet Jonah, who was an Israelite and had patriotic mind, did not want their enemies to be saved. His patriotism was stronger than his desire to follow God's words.

So, verse 3 says that rather than going to Nineveh, Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish, which was the opposite direction of Nineveh.
Jonas' daytime I had a certain value or belief. If God says something against his value, the daytime I was willing to run away from God to avoid the conflict.

Obeying to God's words seemed like betraying his people. So, running away from God was the daytime I defense mechanism.

Nighttime Jonah

The story continues to say that Jonah took a ship to go Tarshish to flee from the Lord, but the storm came and threatened the ship. Then, Jonah confessed to the people that because of his disobedience, God caused this storm. So the people threw Jonah into the sea, and God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah.

Chapter 2 is Jonah's prayer when he was in the belly of the big fish. Jonah prayed at verse 2, "... out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. According to the Old Testament, sheol is a place where the dead people go. Being in the belly of a big fish was like being buried in a grave. It was dark, cold, lonely, scary and starving. There was nothing he could do but simply ask God for help.

According to the dream symbols, under the sea is the place of unconsciousness, where we are not aware and in the belly of the fish is the center of the depth of the unconsciousness. Since this is a place where one can be more receptive rather than proactive, it is a place where one can hear God's voice. It seems a scary place, but it is also a place of God's refuge where we can reconnect with God. It is a place where a dream is created.

Have you ever questioned why Mary had an angel's visitation for that I the annunciation but Joseph had it in his dream? Women are more receptive than men during the day. So women could hear God's message. Men have a strong ego during day time to deal with their daily social life, so they could not hear God's voice. When men sleep at night, they become more receptive and become ready to hear God's voice. So, a dream is the best way that God talks to men. Number 12:6 says "...when there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams.

Jonah had a strong ego and didn't listen to God when he was awake, but when he was swallowed by a big fish, he became receptive to God's voice. He repented, and swore that he would follow God's command.

Back to daytime I

Morton Kelsey, a Jungian psychologist and an Episcopalian Priest, says, "A dream is a way to listen to God". God talks us through a dream, but most people negate the dream and do not remember it.

Jonah experience God in the belly of the big fish and he committed himself to follow God's command, but once he came back to earth his ego still controlled his life. He was not happy to follow God's commandment.

So, chapter 3 said that she went to Nineveh and preached as God commanded, but he went through the city in just one day and preached quickly. It required 3 days to visit the city, but Jonah quickly finished his business without much concern (Jonah3:4).

It is like a guy who loved drinking. He went to see a doctor. His doctor said that he should stop drinking otherwise his kidney would fail. He said that he had to drink and the doctor said that if he drank just a couple of wine, it would be what fine. So this guy prepared a big cup that could hold a bottle of wine and drank it, told himself that he followed the doctor's advice.

Jonah was like that. He pretended to be following God's command, but he did not like to follow God's words. So chapter 3-4 describe Jonah's inner conflict between hispariotism and obeying God's word, between his consciousness and he's unconsciousness, between his daytime "I" and his inner "I".

We like to love people us Jesus said. But like Jonah, we love people who loved us. We love our family but not others. We love our community but not others. We love our country but not enemies. Always, we put a certain boundary consciously or unconsciously, and we love people who are within the boundary we created in our lives. We believe that we love people as Jesus said but denied that there are some people we really do not care about. Since our daytime "I" denies to see the uncomfortable truth, it is oppressed. But the truth is revealed in a dream, on the dream challenges us to move beyond our limits.

Rest in God's refuge

In Hebrew, the word dream is "chalom", and its meaning is to be made healthy or strong. Morton Kelsey says that dreams are gifts from God. God gave us dreams to make us healthy and strong. A dream is supposed to be God's refuge where we can rest.

Modern dream science has discovered that all people dream at night whether they remember or not. When people were deprived of their dreams, they become emotionally disturbed and anxious. Dreaming is not an option, but a human condition to keep our physical and psychological heath.

And understanding our dreams is our choice to grow spiritually.

Although, understanding our dreams is not the only way to improve our spiritual growth, it is one of the better ways to understand ourselves, to maintain our spiritual health and to understand God's guidance. Dreams do not tell us the truth directly. Most times, dreams talk to us indirectly through symbols. Therefore we need to interpret our dreams carefully with an open mind.

Remember that God gave us dreams as a gift, for our psychological and spiritual well- being.

I Have Met The "God"

God is real, please admit it! Here is a story that will warm your heart.

I AM PROUD TO SAY AND DECLARE - THAT I HAVE MET THE "GOD"

On 15th of March 2008 during my sleep I had a dream. During my dream I was sitting under a tree in an abundant area far from city with my head down and in a thoughtful mode.

After some time I realized a passerby stopped in front me. Then I raised my head and saw a strange figure in front me.

... That figure asked me I am watching ...you since forty years you are coming here and sit for some time and go back. What is the cause you're coming here?

I replied to him that I am in search of "ALL MIGHTY GOD" IN ACTUAL SHAPE.

Then stranger questioned me, do you know that the creatures are existing because of "God's Power"?

I replied yes.

Then he smiled and said, is it not sufficient?

Then I replied, NO.

Then the stranger said HE could help me know and realize what will happen, when God is not present.

I replied O K please let me realize that.

Then the stranger asked me to get up, when I got up, HE held me from my waist side and told me close my eyes till next order. Then he said come along with me and took me to another unknown place. After reaching there HE asked me to open my eyes.

Then stranger questioned me could I see HIM?

Then I replied Yes.

Then HE ordered me to look around.

When I happened to look around I saw nothing around all had vanished and collapsed. Looking at that I was so stunned, that I became speechless.

Then HE questioned me should we go back now?

I nodded my head in YES.

When we came back at the spot from where HE took me, HE asked me have you realized who the GOD is.

I nodded my head in YES & pointed towards HIM, considering HIM the " GOD " As I remained safe with HIM.

Then I asked who exactly you are? Then stranger replied I am VAYOO, HAWA, AIR and SAID HE is the only GOD of entire universe. This I have told you to end your search for me "THE ALL MIGHTY GOD ".

Further describing about himself HE said as under: - That

1 Where HE is present, creatures and creation exists, else not.

2 HE is the creator, the protector & the destroyer of entire universe.

3 HE is the master, He is the slave and HE is the servant.

4 HE is available in state in which the creatures want HIM to see.

5 HE does not charge or demand anything for the services HE renders to this universe. Hence all sorts of offerings in his name remain as waste.

6 He enters and exits out as a creature inhales and exhales. Thus He has no home.

7 HE is present in every creature regardless of personality and dignity.

8 HE has no son, no daughter and no nominee. In fact HE is all alone.

9 To have HIM, creature needs not go anywhere, as HE is present just adjacent to every creature.

10 In fact all creatures are equally loveable to HIM.

11 Creatures can call HIM by any word they know, as HE has no specific name.

12 All creatures are the produce of the respective reproduction procedure present in the body of all creatures. HE gives them life & they grow up from the time of concievment.

13 All creatures are getting the rewards of acts they perform. All creatures perform an act to fulfill their own need of time to earn their livelihood.

14 HE is not at all responsible of their act they do. Also HE does not guide them to perform or not perform a specific act.

After reading the above subject if you feel you are also like minded then please forward this paper to some friends & relatives for their information.

Appeal from A K Dhir As human beings follow as under:-

1 Worship at first place the prandata " ALL MIGHTY GOD " as realized.

2 Worship secondly to Janamdata " YOUR OWN MOTHER ".

3 Worship thirdly to Anndata " YOUR OWN FATHER ".

4 Fourthly give due regards to all of "YOUR ELDERS " & love to all youngsters.

5 At last give due regards to "YOUR GURU " your knowledge providers.

P.S- As he left us alone on this earth, but i would like to spread his wonderful thoughts.

Teach Me Lord Lyrics by Loonis McGlohon

Teach Me to love and teach me to live, and teach me to see and yield and forgive.

Father, we need you at work and play, so teach me to know you day by day, teach me to know your voice and your will and help me to climb my own Special hill.

You have the plan so help me to see the plan you have for me, Lord. Teach me today I pray

You have the plan, so help me to see the plan you have for me, Lord. Teach me today, I pray.

Teach me to love and give and live today.

Faith

Faith is when you are lost in the crowd, fighting against the strength of all, yet one infinitesimal spark of hope lies in your heart, knowing a hand is reaching out to you as you stand firm to struggle away, believing in a matter of time, help will come to pluck you out of the crowd.

Faith needs a lot of hard work. It is like going against the faithless crowd, those who doesn't believe in God, those who love the dark life, or who believe they are god. It will test your strength to see how far you can go and how long you stand up for God amidst all the raging mob.
But with God, it becomes less of a hard work for He carries you with an unconditional love.

When I Pray

When I pray, it makes me feel good, as praying is easy. I pray anytime, anywhere, any place when opportunity arise. But what I am guilty of is keeping up with prayer, to maintain a prayerful life in a sense that I pray with no rush in mind. To pray as if it is the most important thing to do for the day, more important than my plans for the day. To pray, when distractions and temptations dance around me. To pray when there is struggle within me whether to do the right thing or go astray. To pray, not because it makes me feel good but because it makes my Mother Mary happy.

Loving is denying...

Loving is denying oneself. When loving Mother Mary, everything is focus only to Mother Mary and none for oneself. From morning till night, all works for the day is offered to Mother Mary and because self is denied, there'll be no complaining, no pain, no dissatisfaction, no anger, no wishing but just happy Mother Mary is being served for the day. The good thing is: She is looking at you from heaven, telling Jesus how you have spent the day loving...

Love

Love is like a river, ever flowing, calm and peaceful yet with tremendous power at times. Just like Mary's love for her children, always there, quietly watching over with motherly love, peacefully interceding for our needs and at times showed herself to demonstrate how powerful is a mother's love.

Sermons and Meals

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday…

“I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 203,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone WROTE this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this… They all nourished me and gave me strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

Independence Day Reflection

Upon celebrating independence day, reflect on being independent from the temptations of the devil. Be selfless to let God reign in our hearts so we may have the strength to fight tempting offers that are not of love. Be of service to those who need help the most because they too are children of God. Be aware of the devil's work behind a sheep's skin for they can be misleading at times. Be sharers of God's Word, shine to others who are still in the dark, lost and confused. Be willing to offer Him your disappointments in life to make it less disappointing and be contented with oneself, what you have, what you are, who you are make one special in the eyes of God for you are created in His image and likeness. Be independent from sins but not from God.

Prayer to Padre Pio

A Prayer to Padre Pio

Beloved Padre Pio, today I come to add my prayer to the thousands of prayers offered to you every day by those who love and venerate you in Jesus' name. They ask for cures and healing, earthly and spiritual blessings, and peace for body and mind. And because of your friendship with the Lord, he heals those you ask to be healed, and forgives those you ask be forgiven in Jesus' name.

Through your visible wounds of the Crucified Jesus, which you bore for 50 years, you were chosen in our time to glorify the crucified Jesus. Because the Cross has been replaced by other symbols, please help us bring back the veneration of the wounds of Jesus Christ, for we acknowledge His Precious Blood as true a sign of salvation, cleansing and purification.
As we lovingly recall the wounds that pierced your hands, feet and side, like  beloved Jesus Christ, we not only remember the blood He shed as you also shed in pain, along with your smile, and the invisible halo of sweet smelling flowers that surrounded your presence certainly the Scent of The Lord, symbolic as the perfume of sanctity.
Padre Pio, may the healing of the sick become the testimony that the Lord has invited you to join the holy company of Saints. In your kindness, please help me with my own special request: (mention here your petition, and make the sign of the Cross).

Bless me and my loved ones. In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

May I be simple and docile as a child...

Call me, O Mother Mary and I will answer with speed. Call me where ever I am and whenever you want, for I am your child. Call me to attend to your school of faith, that I may learn simplicity and docility to yearn for no one else but our Lord. Show me the way that I may learn the divine science of faith, of believing to see rather that to see to believe.

At home, speak to me through my family. My parents, brother and sisters can be instruments in search of God's love.
At work, remind me through my colleagues, that they are no different than me - an image and likeness of the creator.
At school, help me see through the hearts of the teachers, students and staff who are perfect in God's eyes.
On the street, may I be a mirror of God's love while going to my destination.

May I be simple and docile as a child...
